Driven by our Augustinian Catholic mission, Merrimack is where academic excellence meets the future of quantum innovation.
About
Merrimack College is a private Catholic institution in North Andover, Massachusetts. It offers programs in the liberal arts, science, engineering, health sciences, business, education, and more. For the science programs, the college promotes active learning, undergraduate research, and experiential education especially in the Department of Mathematics and Physics. The college constructed a Center for Innovation and Research in Engineering and Computational Sciences. The center expands and modernizes collaborative research infrastructure with lab space, classrooms, and make-prototyping workshops, and it facilitates collaborative problem-solving in engineering, materials, robotics, simulations, and applied computing.
Regarding the quantum realm, it appears that Merrimack does not operate a complete quantum field theory group, but they do high-level theoretical and computational work in the field and adjacent areas. For instance, Christopher Duston, the chair of the Department of Mathematics & Physics, works on mathematical physics and quantum gravity concepts, including “exotic smooth structures” and loop quantum gravity. Other faculty member Don Roosan is working on practical applications of quantum computing in healthcare, drug design, and molecular engineering. The recruiting of positions like “Assistant Professor of Quantum Computing & AI” also indicates that Merrimack plans to expand work in quantum technologies.
