Job Title: Quantum Engineer - Readout. Location: Redmond, Washington, United States
Job Type: Full-Time, Hybrid, 3 days per week in-office
Responsibilities:
- Design and test scalable readout circuitry for topological qubits.
- Design readout systems at the component, subsystem, and system levels.
- Collaborate across teams to co-design readout systems with evolving qubit designs and control requirements.
- Analyze, interpret, document, and present measurement results;
- Develop engineering tools and processes that support progress in quantum research.
- Build tools and techniques that enable internal and external users to work more efficiently.
- Apply engineering best practices throughout hardware development and quantum measurement activities.
- Use AI tools for measurement, performance modeling, analysis, research, and task automation.
- Work effectively in an AI-first environment using modern AI tools to accelerate hardware development and discovery.
- Participate in customer presentations and professional networking opportunities.
- Follow established safety standards and policies across different work environments;
- Help define and implement safety protocols when required.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced research and engineering environment.

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Alternatively, a bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field plus 2+ years of industry or research and development experience.
- Equivalent experience may also be considered.
- Experience or proficiency with at least one RF readout technique used in solid-state qubit devices, such as RF-SETs or dispersive readout.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements;
- Ability to provide required citizenship or permanent residency documentation for assessment of eligibility to access export-controlled information.
- Ability to use AI tools to improve innovation and efficiency in areas such as measurement, modeling, analysis, research, and automation.
- Ability to work effectively in an AI-first hardware development environment.
Preferred:
- Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Master's degree plus 3+ years of industry or research and development experience.
- Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years of industry or research and development experience.
- Equivalent experience may also be considered;
- Experience with semiconductor devices or spins in semiconductors.
- Experience with cryogenic microwave experiments.
- Experience working with low-noise amplifiers.
- Proficiency with RF readout techniques for solid-state qubit devices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Typical U.S. base salary range: $102,100-$202,200 per year.
- San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area range: $133,800-$219,200 per year.
- Certain roles may qualify for additional benefits and compensation.
- Microsoft provides a range of employee benefits and compensation programs, subject to eligibility.
- The position is classified as Quantum Engineering IC3.
