Job Description
Job Title: Senior Fiber Assembly Process Engineer. Location: Milpitas, California, USA
Responsibilities:
- Develop advanced assembly instrumentation for high-performance and high-throughput fiber splicing.
- Investigate and identify the root causes of fiber splice loss and variability.
- Develop and deploy advanced fiber processing equipment in collaboration with industrial partners.
- Design advanced measurement methods to validate fiber and fiber splice losses at datacenter scale;
- Use optical simulation tools to model the behavior and performance of fiber-to-fiber interfaces across advanced fiber designs.
- Evaluate modal properties, dispersion, coupling efficiency, loss mechanisms, and other optical fiber characteristics through simulation and experimental validation.
- Collaborate with optical packaging and assembly validation teams to develop reliable testing methods for fiber interface performance and reliability.
- Support optical assembly manufacturing and semiconductor process development for scalable quantum computing systems.
Qualifications:
- Master's or PhD in Photonics, Optics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in fiber optics, optical system development, and fiber assembly.
- Strong understanding of optical fibers, fiber splicing, and measurement equipment;
- Familiarity with opto-mechanical packaging and optical assembly equipment.
- Proficiency in Python and JMP.
- Experience with mechanical and/or optical instrumentation automation and control.
Preferred:
- Experience with back-end semiconductor packaging.
- Experience working with advanced optical simulation tools.
- Knowledge of optical packaging validation and reliability testing.
Benefits and Compensation:
- U.S. base salary: $110,000 to $160,000 USD per year.
- Bay Area salary: $150,000 to $177,000 USD per year.
