Job Title: Hardware Integration Engineer. Location: Huntsville, Alabama, USA
Hybrid work model

Q-CTRL is seeking a Hardware Integration Engineer to lead the mechanical and electrical integration of quantum sensing and navigation systems onto unmanned aerial systems (UAS); This role focuses on building, testing, debugging, and preparing hardware systems for laboratory, field, and flight deployment.

You will work closely with hardware, software, and systems engineers across the United States and Q-CTRL headquarters in Sydney.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the mechanical and electrical integration of quantum sensors and auxiliary hardware onto UAS platforms
  • Design and implement integration-specific components such as brackets, fixtures, cabling, and interface hardware
  • Assemble, bring up, and debug integrated hardware systems in laboratory environments
  • Perform bench, environmental, and functional testing of integrated systems
  • Support field trials and flight testing activities;
  • Collaborate closely with systems and software engineers to ensure reliable subsystem integration
  • Plan and document integration builds, test setups, results, and anomalies
  • Liaise with suppliers and support procurement for prototype builds
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, consumables, and safe working practices;
  • Contribute to improving integration processes, documentation, and repeatability
  • Support communication and coordination across global engineering teams
  • Perform other related duties aligned with skills and experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience integrating complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience in aerospace, UAS, robotics, or advanced research environments;
  • Strong skills in prototype assembly, wiring, cable harnessing, and electro-mechanical rework
  • Experience using CAD tools for mechanical and electrical component design
  • Proficiency with tools, test equipment, and rapid prototyping techniques
  • Ability to work independently in laboratory and field environments

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting field trials or flight testing
  • Familiarity with documentation, configuration management, and quality practices
  • Exposure to low-level embedded software or driver development;
  • Experience working closely with systems and software engineering teams

Travel Requirements:

  • Intermittent domestic and international travel
  • Regular collaboration across time zones, especially with teams in Sydney
