Job Description

Job Title: Lead Quantum Engineer, Systems Performance. Location: Berkeley, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and lead cross-functional experimental programs that inform Rigetti's technical roadmap and drive system-level improvements.
• Propose and explore new technical directions to improve the performance and scalability of superconducting qubit systems.
• Design and execute experiments to test new technical ideas and approaches.
• Identify complex performance gaps in existing quantum hardware technology.
• Develop and implement approaches to address key technology and performance gaps;
• Lead engineers and scientists across multiple disciplines to deliver experimental programs and technical improvements.
• Own the delivery of key quantum hardware technologies.
• Contribute to the development of the next generation of Rigetti's quantum hardware.
• Collaborate with teams across the organization to identify and mitigate system-level performance issues.
• Communicate technical findings, ideas, and recommendations clearly across teams.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Previous technical experience in an industry or startup environment.
• Demonstrated technical leadership experience.
• Direct experience with cryogenic systems and RF measurement techniques;
• Extensive hands-on experience with time-domain measurements and superconducting quantum devices.
• Track record of meaningful accomplishments in quantum science or related fields.
• Working knowledge of Python.
• Strong organization and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in teams and collaborate across different groups.

Preferred:

• Strong coding skills.
• Familiarity with circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED) simulation tools.
