Quantum Research Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Research Engineer, Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, California, United States

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop cryogenic hardware systems for quantum computing applications.
• Create high-density packaging solutions for quantum processor units.
• Develop cryogenic mechanical designs for signal conditioning sub-assemblies and signal delivery systems.
• Perform simulation-driven design work to improve shielding, filtering, and electromagnetic interference mitigation.
• Use Finite Element Analysis tools for thermal, mechanical, and electromagnetic modeling;
• Lead end-to-end product development including requirements, conceptual design, detailed design, manufacturing, integration, and testing.
• Participate in design reviews, requirements discussions, and technical evaluations with cross-functional teams.
• Improve engineering standards, workflows, and operational processes for cryogenic hardware development;
• Document design work, test results, and engineering decisions clearly for internal teams.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related field.
• 6+ years of relevant industry experience (or equivalent academic experience for advanced degrees).
• Strong experience in cryogenic mechanical design and full product development lifecycle.
• Knowledge of design for manufacturing principles;
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis for thermal and mechanical systems.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks.

Preferred:

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• Experience in quantum hardware development or quantum processor packaging.
• Knowledge of RF and microwave engineering principles;
• Experience with PCB design and manufacturing.

Benefits and Compensation:

• Annual salary range: 142,800 to 193,200 USD (Pasadena, CA base range).
