Quantum Systems Engineer - Research

Job Description

Job Title: Principal Quantum Systems Engineer - Applied Research Quantum Computing. Location: Remote, California, CA, Santa Clara, WA, Redmond

You will work with teams across Product, Engineering, and Applied Research to design and test advanced quantum-classical systems.

Responsibilities:

Systems Engineering and Research

  • Lead the design, development, and testing of QPU integration for a fault-tolerant quantum supercomputer.
  • Define and refine technical requirements for complex hybrid quantum-classical systems;
  • Engineer subsystems and integrate hardware and software components across multiple teams.

Innovation and Architecture

  • Explore new methods for quantum-classical system design and contribute to future architectures.
  • Develop real-time calibration techniques using rigorous system analysis for different qubit types;
  • Research and co-design control systems, QPUs, GPUs, and CPUs for combined compute and communication needs.

Collaboration and Ecosystem

  • Work with internal teams and external partners to set technology requirements.
  • Support efforts to advance scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computing;
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, fast innovation, and strong technical depth.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 12 years of experience in the quantum computing industry.
  • Strong background in Quantum Information Science and Systems Engineering.
  • Proven success in designing and delivering quantum computing systems;
  • Hands-on experience with several qubit modalities and control hardware.

Preferred:

  • Experience building and co-designing control systems with qubit architectures.
  • Knowledge of measurement and benchmarking methods for quantum systems.
  • Exposure to AI and machine learning techniques.
  • Experience with CUDA and NVIDIA GPU platforms;
  • Strong interest in applying innovations to NVIDIA software and hardware.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Base salary range: 232,000 USD to 368,000 USD, depending on experience, location, and internal levels.
