Sr. Process Integration Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Process Integration Engineer. Location: United States

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize fabrication processes for integrated photonic devices based on crystalline electro-optic materials, including thin-film lithium niobate.
  • Improve fabrication process modules used to manufacture critical components for photonic quantum computing hardware.
  • Collaborate with the Design team to improve optical component yield and build complex photonic device stacks, including:
    • Low-loss edge couplers
    • Electro-optic modulators
    • Room-temperature photodiodes
  • Independently manage wafer lots processed by foundry partners;
  • Design and execute fabrication process improvement experiments, including defining fabrication splits and analyzing inline process data.
  • Develop and execute metrology and failure analysis plans to identify, evaluate, and mitigate process failure modes.
  • Analyze results from process optimization experiments and implement process improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal process engineers, photonics engineers, design engineers, and external semiconductor and photonics foundry partners.
  • Drive improvements in integrated photonics fabrication performance and manufacturing quality;
  • Stay informed about emerging photonics fabrication technologies and implement new techniques where appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in semiconductor or integrated photonics fabrication within a foundry environment.
  • Experience managing the complete product development lifecycle from research and development through high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience coordinating projects with semiconductor and photonics foundry partners.
  • Strong background in semiconductor fabrication process development and optimization;
  • Proven ability to improve fabrication processes for low-loss integrated photonic components.
  • Experience using semiconductor metrology and failure analysis techniques, including at least two of the following:
    • SEM
    • TEM
    • AFM
    • Ellipsometry
    • XRR/XRD
    • SIMS
    • Raman Spectroscopy
    • Photoluminescence
  • Familiarity with passive and active photonic components such as waveguides, modulators, switches, beamsplitters, resonators, and Mach-Zehnder Interferometers (MZIs).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of experience developing fabrication processes for integrated photonics using electro-optic materials such as thin-film lithium niobate.
  • Experience with integrated photonics fabrication.
  • Experience etching waveguides in lithium niobate or similar crystalline electro-optic materials.
  • Experience evaluating, procuring, installing, qualifying, and commissioning semiconductor processing or measurement equipment.
  • Experience using data analysis tools and software such as Python, GitHub, JMP, and MATLAB;
  • Experience working in fabless semiconductor companies.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin.
