Job Description
Job Title: Research Scientist, Modeling of Readout and Reset, Quantum. Location: Goleta, CA, USA / Los Angeles, CA, USA
Responsibilities:
- Develop models for readout and reset operations in superconducting qubits, including numerical models of physical processes that cause errors.
- Validate theoretical models against experimental results to support system optimization and quantum hardware design.
- Work closely with the hardware team to analyze and develop theoretical understanding of experimental data.
- Develop and maintain software used for quantum research and integrate it with data-taking infrastructure;
- Propose and analyze new readout and reset schemes designed to achieve improved performance.
- Conduct research aimed at quantitatively understanding error mechanisms in readout and reset operations.
- Contribute to Google's broader quantum computing research efforts through experimentation, modeling, and analysis.
- Share and publish research findings through conferences, journals, public repositories, and other research channels.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience modeling qubit systems.
- Programming experience using Python;
- At least one scientific publication submission related to quantum computing, including submissions to conferences, journals, or public repositories.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary quantum computing teams.
Preferred:
- Experience modeling superconducting qubit operations, particularly readout and reset.
- Experience with numerical simulations of quantum systems.
- Experience with high-performance computing tools.
- Experience collaborating with experimentalists on quantum computing projects.
- Experience analyzing or modeling experimental quantum computing data.
- Experience with microwave engineering for superconducting qubits.
- Experience with error correction codes.
- Familiarity with circuit Quantum Electrodynamics (cQED).
Benefits and Compensation:
- Annual salary range of $147,000 to $210,000 USD.
