Job Title: Lead Semiconductor Packaging Engineer - 843. Location: Malta, New York, USA
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement advanced semiconductor packaging concepts for large-scale assemblies of ion trap, electrical, and optical chips.
- Lead cross-functional teams in designing packaging strategies for large-format ion trap chips with high I/O signal count and density.
- Define packaging requirements covering mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical performance;
- Lead vendor collaborations to implement, validate, and optimize semiconductor packaging processes.
- Support all stages of ion trap development to ensure compatibility with packaging solutions.
- Manage and mentor a team of packaging engineers while coordinating with the broader Quantinuum engineering organization.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with third-party suppliers and technology partners.
- Identify and support co-development opportunities with external organizations.
- Ensure packaging solutions meet overall system performance and reliability requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience, or
- Master's degree with 8+ years of experience, or
- PhD with 6+ years of experience in advanced semiconductor packaging development;
- Must qualify as a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, Green Card holder, refugee, or asylum recipient).
- Due to U.S. Government national security requirements, applicants must not be nationals of the People's Republic of China or Russia unless they are also U.S. citizens.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test for a safety-sensitive position.
Preferred:
- PhD in Physics or Engineering.
- Experience with advanced large-area multi-chip semiconductor packaging technologies.
- Experience with heterogeneous integration and 2.5D/3D packaging techniques.
- Experience with high-density I/O technologies.
- Knowledge of photonic packaging and fiber-to-chip or optical chip-to-optical chip coupling.
- Demonstrated record of innovation and intellectual property development.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

- Annual salary: $152,000 to $190,000, depending on experience, education, skills, and qualifications.
