Semiconductor Packaging Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Lead Semiconductor Packaging Engineer - 843. Location: Malta, New York, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement advanced semiconductor packaging concepts for large-scale assemblies of ion trap, electrical, and optical chips.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in designing packaging strategies for large-format ion trap chips with high I/O signal count and density.
  • Define packaging requirements covering mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical performance;
  • Lead vendor collaborations to implement, validate, and optimize semiconductor packaging processes.
  • Support all stages of ion trap development to ensure compatibility with packaging solutions.
  • Manage and mentor a team of packaging engineers while coordinating with the broader Quantinuum engineering organization.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with third-party suppliers and technology partners.
  • Identify and support co-development opportunities with external organizations.
  • Ensure packaging solutions meet overall system performance and reliability requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience, or
  • Master's degree with 8+ years of experience, or
  • PhD with 6+ years of experience in advanced semiconductor packaging development;
  • Must qualify as a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, Green Card holder, refugee, or asylum recipient).
  • Due to U.S. Government national security requirements, applicants must not be nationals of the People's Republic of China or Russia unless they are also U.S. citizens.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test for a safety-sensitive position.

Preferred:

  • PhD in Physics or Engineering.
  • Experience with advanced large-area multi-chip semiconductor packaging technologies.
  • Experience with heterogeneous integration and 2.5D/3D packaging techniques.
  • Experience with high-density I/O technologies.
  • Knowledge of photonic packaging and fiber-to-chip or optical chip-to-optical chip coupling.
  • Demonstrated record of innovation and intellectual property development.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
