Job Title: Service Engineer II, USHQ [579]. Location: Boca Raton, FL, USA
Responsibilities:
- Participate in quantum computing system builds, installations, commissioning, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and repair cryogenic, electrical, mechanical, vacuum, and control systems in laboratory and field environments.
- Help establish service operations at D-Wave's new Boca Raton facility, including procedures, tools, spare-parts practices, documentation, and escalation processes.
- Support production systems through scheduled maintenance, incident response, and participation in an on-call rotation.
- Work with hardware and R&D teams to improve system reliability, serviceability, and operational processes;
- Develop and maintain service procedures, troubleshooting guides, maintenance records, and incident documentation.
- Build effective working relationships with customers, partners, vendors, and host-facility personnel.
- Travel to customer and company sites as required.
- Take increasing ownership of system support, operational readiness, documentation, and technical issue resolution after completing the required training assignment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience supporting complex electromechanical systems in laboratory, production, or field environments.
- Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid systems, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting, critical-thinking, and organizational skills.
- Experience with scripting, PLC logic, or programming languages such as Python or C/C++;
- Ability to manage changing priorities and work independently in a new and developing operation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence working directly with customers.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, operations, facilities, and other technical teams.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Base salary range of $89,000 to $122,000 USD per year.
- Company ownership/equity, bonus, benefits, perks, and other total rewards, with specific offerings reviewed during the interview process.
- D-Wave will cover eligible costs associated with the required short-term international training assignment;
- Additional details regarding total rewards and assignment costs will be provided during the hiring process.
Training and Assignment Requirements:
- Temporarily relocate to Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, for a required on-site training and knowledge-transfer assignment of up to 180 days.
- Obtain and maintain authorization to work in Canada for the duration of the temporary assignment.
- Obtain and maintain a valid passport and be able to travel to customer and company sites across North America and Europe.
- Approximately 10% travel is expected after the initial training assignment;
- Participate in an on-call rotation and work flexible or after-hours schedules when business needs require.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance.
Security and Export Control:
- The position requires the ability to pass a Tier 2 background investigation.
- An active U.S. government security clearance is required, or candidates must be able to qualify for one. U.S. citizenship is required for this clearance.
- The position may involve access to controlled information or technology subject to U.S. export control laws;
- Employment may depend on the applicant qualifying as a U.S. Person or D-Wave obtaining any necessary export license.
- Export licensing is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and D-Wave may decline to proceed with an application if required licensing cannot be obtained.
