Job Title: Principal Signal Integrity Simulation Engineer. Location: Redmond, Washington, United States
Job Type: Full-Time (Hybrid, 3 days/week in office)
Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end signal integrity simulation strategy for next-generation quantum computing systems.
- Develop simulation methodologies spanning room-temperature electronics, cryogenic infrastructure, Cryo-CMOS subsystems, advanced packaging, and quantum hardware.
- Build and maintain system-level models to predict signal fidelity, crosstalk, timing, noise, attenuation, and bandwidth across quantum control and readout systems.
- Perform architecture trade studies and simulation-driven analyses to reduce technical risks and optimize system performance before hardware implementation.
- Establish simulation methodologies, modeling standards, and validation practices using electromagnetic, circuit, behavioral, and system-level simulation tools.
- Collaborate with Cryo-CMOS, packaging, readout, and qubit design teams to define system interfaces and performance requirements;
- Document simulation models, methodologies, validation results, and engineering decisions to support reproducibility and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to Microsoft's engineering culture by demonstrating collaboration, accountability, and continuous innovation.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 3+ years of technical engineering experience; or
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 6+ years of technical engineering experience; or
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 8+ years of technical engineering experience; or
- Equivalent professional experience;
- Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
- Ability to meet export control and citizenship verification requirements, including providing proof of citizenship or eligible work authorization where required.
Preferred:
- Doctorate with 5+ years, Master's with 8+ years, or Bachelor's with 12+ years of industry or research experience in Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in signal integrity, RF engineering, electromagnetic simulation, or system-level modeling.
- Experience using industry-standard simulation tools such as Cadence, Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS, AWR, COMSOL, SPICE-based tools, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of transmission line theory, impedance matching, S-parameters, crosstalk analysis, and high-speed interconnect design.
- Experience validating simulation models using experimental measurements.
- Experience leading technically complex, cross-disciplinary engineering projects;
- Experience with cryogenic electronics, Cryo-CMOS systems, superconducting systems, or quantum computing hardware.
- Experience modeling large multi-domain systems involving electrical, RF, thermal, and physical interfaces.
- Experience solving signal integrity challenges in mixed-signal, RF, or high-speed digital systems.
- Experience with Python-based simulation, automation, and data analysis workflows;
- Experience defining engineering requirements, validation plans, and system-level performance metrics.
- Familiarity with advanced quantum control and readout architectures.
- Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across multiple teams.
- Ability to use AI tools to accelerate research, simulation, modeling, engineering workflows, and technical decision-making.
- Knowledge of advanced semiconductor packaging technologies.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Base salary: USD $142,800 to $274,800 per year across most U.S. locations.
- Base salary for the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area: USD $188,000 to $304,200 per year.
- Eligible roles may receive additional compensation and comprehensive Microsoft employee benefits.
- Hybrid work arrangement with three in-office days per week.
- Less than 25% travel required.
