Simulation Physicist - Ion Transport and Waveform

Job Description

Job Title: Simulation Physicist – Ion Transport and Waveform Design. Location: Boulder, Colorado, USA / Oxford, England, United Kingdom

Job Type: Research Fellowship (Full-Time, On-Site)

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and improve numerical simulation tools for ion transport in RF Paul traps.
  • Validate simulation outputs in collaboration with experimental physics teams.
  • Design novel control schemes for fast, stable, and low-excitation ion transport;
  • Generate control voltage waveforms used in trapped-ion quantum computer operations.
  • Collaborate with trap design teams to integrate new transport techniques into future systems.
  • Support cross-functional teams including experimental, commercial, and architecture groups.
  • Contribute to waveform design used in quantum computing operations;
  • Analyze and optimize ion transport performance through simulation and modeling.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to scientific and engineering teams.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Atomic Physics, Quantum Information Science, or a related field.
  • Strong experience in numerical simulation and computational modeling.
  • Proficiency in programming and data analysis, especially Python;
  • Strong ability to communicate scientific and technical results.
  • Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary research environments.

Preferred:

  • Experience with ion transport or waveform design in RF Paul traps.
  • Background in scientific computing using compiled languages such as C or C++.
  • Experience in experimental validation of simulation models.
  • Knowledge of quantum device modeling and optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with trapped-ion quantum computing systems.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Base salary range: $110,336 to $144,459 annually.
  • Total compensation includes base pay, bonus, and equity.
