Job Title: Sr. Advanced Physicist (AMO) - 901. Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
Responsibilities:
- Build, operate, and maintain trapped-ion quantum systems and supporting infrastructure using free-space optics and integrated photonics for light delivery.
- Design, execute, and optimize experimental research related to trapped-ion quantum computing.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, and present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Help establish and develop an ion-trapping laboratory from the ground up;
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and fabrication experts to validate integrated photonic and trapped-ion technologies.
- Review scientific literature and implement improvements to experimental methods and workflows.
- Contribute to the development of utility-scale trapped-ion quantum computing systems.
- Travel approximately 10% based on business requirements.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Physics or a related field completed before the start date.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with trapped-ion systems (Ph.D. experience included);
- Minimum 3 years of experience programming control systems for experimental data collection and analysis (Ph.D. experience included).
- Must qualify as a U.S. Person, including U.S. citizens, permanent residents, green card holders, individuals granted asylum, or refugees.
- Must meet U.S. Government national security requirements for this position.
Preferred:
- Ph.D. in Physics or a related discipline.
- Experience developing quantum computing hardware.
- Experience with cryogenic and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems.
- Experience working with integrated photonic devices;
- Strong scientific communication and technical writing skills.
- Excellent organizational and collaboration abilities.
- Published research in peer-reviewed journals related to trapped-ion quantum information science.

- Annual salary of $148,000 to $178,000, depending on experience, education, and qualifications.
