Job Title: Senior Director, Developer Ecosystem. Location: Bothell, Washington, USA

Responsibilities:

Developer Ecosystem Strategy

  • Define and execute IonQ's end-to-end developer ecosystem strategy.
  • Lead initiatives across developer communities, open source, and developer experience.
  • Represent the voice of the developer community in product planning and prioritization.
  • Define long-term goals for IonQ's developer platform leadership through 2030.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute the developer ecosystem vision.

Open Source Leadership

  • Represent IonQ within standards organizations, open source foundations, and industry partnerships.
  • Drive open source governance initiatives and community benchmarking efforts.
  • Help shape the future of quantum software infrastructure through strategic contributions.

Developer Tools

  • Define and lead the roadmap for IonQ's developer tools, including APIs, SDKs, and related technologies.
  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and Science teams to ensure developer tools evolve alongside advancements toward fault-tolerant quantum computing.
  • Improve programming models, tooling, and developer workflows for quantum application development.

Documentation and Developer Education

  • Establish high-quality standards for technical documentation, tutorials, learning resources, and developer programs.
  • Oversee developer education initiatives, technical challenges, hackathons, and community enablement.
  • Create consistent technical content supporting enterprise adoption and advanced quantum development.

Adoption and Growth

  • Drive developer adoption metrics, including platform usage, community growth, API and SDK adoption, and provider rankings.
  • Monitor product adoption, developer engagement, survey rankings, and active practitioner growth.
  • Develop strategies to increase developer loyalty and platform usage.

Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary developer ecosystem organization.
  • Begin as a player-coach while expanding the team as the organization grows.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, Applications, Science, Customer Success, Product Marketing, and Field Engineering teams.

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in developer relations, developer ecosystem strategy, open source leadership, or technical product management.
  • Strong passion for advancing practical quantum computing.
  • Proven experience building and scaling developer communities.
  • Deep understanding of open source strategy and governance.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across developer relations, developer education, and engineering.
  • Strong technical knowledge with the ability to communicate effectively with quantum researchers, compiler engineers, and application developers.
  • Demonstrated success managing developer experience roadmaps with measurable business outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and collaboration skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience contributing to or leading major quantum developer ecosystems such as Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of NISQ-era software, quantum error correction, and fault-tolerant quantum computing.
  • Established network within the quantum computing hardware, software, and open source communities.
  • Experience working with government agencies such as DOE, DARPA, or NSF.
  • Experience participating in or leading projects within software foundations, standards organizations, or industry consortiums.
