Fiber Optic Systems Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Fiber Optic Systems Engineer. Location: Milpitas, California, United States

This role focuses on optical modules, electro-optical testing, manufacturing processes, and close collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the design and construction of optical fiber subsystems and modules, including electrical control and mechanical assemblies.
  • Develop scalable, robust, and cost-effective manufacturing processes for fiber optic modules.
  • Perform electro-optical testing, fiber splicing, and other precision manufacturing techniques.
  • Create and maintain clear, version-controlled assembly and test documentation;
  • Manage bills of materials, technical documentation, and continuous product improvement efforts.
  • Collect, trace, and analyze build data for troubleshooting design and component issues.
  • Collaborate with supply chain partners, vendors, design engineers, and technicians to improve current and future products.
  • Execute debug and validation tests across software and hardware control systems in coordination with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience in fiber optic or photonics systems.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber lasers, optical amplifiers, and fiber optic components.
  • Experience with fiber splicing equipment, fiber routing, and equipment maintenance;
  • Proven ability to validate and test fiber optic components and scale them into production-ready systems.
  • Strong experience with optical test equipment such as polarization analyzers, insertion and return loss tools, optical backscatter reflectometers, and optical spectrum analyzers.
  • Python scripting experience, including calling control software APIs or drivers to operate lab equipment and proprietary systems.

Preferred:

  • Direct experience working in quantum computing, photonics-based systems, or advanced semiconductor manufacturing environments.
  • Experience transferring R&D designs into scalable manufacturing processes.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $160,000 to $180,000 USD
  • $183,000 to $200,000 USD

Additional compensation details:

  • Full-time employees are eligible for equity and a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Compensation may vary based on experience, skills, education, location, and business needs.
  • Base pay ranges are subject to change.
