Job Description
Job Title: Hardware Engineer. Location: Goleta, California, USA
Responsibilities:
- Identify hardware flaws, analyze technical risks and trade-offs, and implement effective corrective solutions.
- Evaluate hardware design feasibility against product requirements and collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope.
- Optimize complex hardware components for performance, power efficiency, reliability, and cost using engineering best practices.
- Predict hardware design outcomes and trade-offs using simulation and measurement data.
- Review and approve hardware designs throughout the development process;
- Resolve hardware testing issues and compare measured performance against design predictions.
- Document hardware design, implementation, testing, validation, and product lifecycle activities.
- Contribute to the development of superconducting quantum computing hardware.
- Work on improving device performance through innovative fabrication techniques and engineering solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in hardware engineering or a related occupation.
OR
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 3 years of relevant hardware engineering experience.
- At least 3 years of experience with:
- System-level analysis of component interactions, architectural trade-offs, and system optimization.
- Hardware debugging, issue triage, and root-cause analysis.
- Data analysis to identify system or workflow gaps and develop technical solutions;
- Applying technical expertise in areas such as optics, sensors, or audio/digital signal processors.
- Managing the complete hardware product lifecycle, including development, maintenance, evolution, delivery, and retirement.
Preferred:
- Experience working with superconducting quantum hardware.
- Knowledge of quantum device fabrication techniques.
- Experience with hardware simulation and performance validation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Base salary: $201,300 to $231,000 per year.
- Target annual bonus of 15%.
- Equity grants through Alphabet Inc.
