Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Design Drafter. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

This role focuses on detailed mechanical drawings, CAD models, and manufacturing documentation for complex cryogenic assemblies.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed CAD models, assembly drawings, layouts, and documentation for cryogenic systems
  • Act as a mechanical detailer for complex electro-optical and cryogenic assemblies
  • Create and maintain complete drawing packages for manufacturing and system integration;
  • Perform general mechanical design tasks, including requirements tracking, material selection, component selection, and tolerance analysis
  • Review drawings for accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with project requirements
  • Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing standards accurately
  • Visualize complex physical systems and translate engineering concepts into practical designs
  • Participate in cryostat and cryogenic system commissioning activities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of mechanical design experience on large-scale systems
  • Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes for vacuum and cryogenic applications
  • Solid understanding of drafting standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards;
  • Experience with parametric solid modeling and mechanical detailing
  • Hands-on experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or Siemens NX
  • Experience using PLM and document management systems such as Teamcenter, Windchill, or Agile

Preferred:

  • Experience designing or working with cryogenic systems
  • Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section III)
  • Familiarity with ASME Process Piping Code (B31.3)
  • Knowledge of fabrication methods including machining, welding, brazing, soldering, and forming

Compensation and Benefits:

  • U.S. Base Salary Range: $114,000 to $125,000 USD
  • Bay Area Salary Range: $140,000 to $155,000 USD
  • Full-time roles are eligible for equity and comprehensive benefits
  • Compensation may vary based on experience, education, location, and business needs
