Photonic Circuits Designer

Job Description

Job Title: Photonic Circuits Designer. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

The primary focus is on photonic integrated circuit (PIC) design, including schematic development, floor planning, performance modeling, and test planning; The role also includes developing internal software tools for optical and quantum simulations.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with photonics, electronics, and test engineers on data-driven circuit analysis
• Design and implement software functionality for internal circuit design workflows
• Develop methodologies to evaluate circuit implementation concepts and assess feasibility
• Build predictive models and perform detailed circuit analysis;
• Run design checks and validation processes on photonic circuits
• Contribute to the design of complex photonic switch networks

Qualifications:

• PhD or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field
• Ability to work in new and emerging technical areas involving first-of-their-kind photonic circuits
• Strong programming experience in Python
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary technical teams

Preferred:

• Experience with high-speed electro-optic phase shifters
• Familiarity with photonic circuit design concepts and GDS layout
• Experience using git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines
• Working knowledge of quantum computing and quantum mechanics

Additional Useful Experience:

• Background in analog and or digital electrical circuit design
• Professional experience building and releasing production-grade web applications;
• Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and modern front-end frameworks such as React, Svelte, or Vue

Compensation and Benefits:

• U.S. Base Pay Range: USD 130,000 to 145,000
• Bay Area Pay Range: USD 145,000 to 165,000

Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, geographic location, and business needs. Base salary is one part of the total compensation package; Full-time roles are eligible for equity and a comprehensive benefits package. Compensation ranges are subject to change.
