Power Systems Architect, Quantum Infra.

Job Description

Job Title: Principal Power Systems Architect, Quantum Infrastructure. Location: Milpitas, California, United States

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the main technical link between hardware teams and facility engineering for all electrical power system design matters
  • Define how utility power is brought into, conditioned, distributed, and isolated across quantum computing facilities;
  • Develop top-level specifications for power distribution systems including redundancy, fault tolerance, and maintainability
  • Design electrical infrastructure from service entrance down to equipment-level interfaces

Power Quality and Noise Management

  • Define and enforce power quality requirements for sensitive quantum hardware systems
  • Analyze and mitigate electrical noise, harmonics, voltage transients, EMI, and grounding issues
  • Address both conducted and radiated interference affecting quantum hardware performance;
  • Evaluate coupling paths between high-power systems and sensitive electronics

Grounding, Shielding, and EMI Control

  • Design grounding, bonding, shielding, and cable management strategies across the facility
  • Establish electrical and physical zoning to isolate noisy and sensitive systems;
  • Define mitigation strategies for ground loops, crosstalk, and electromagnetic interference
  • Guide EMI/EMC best practices across both facility and hardware layers

Power Conditioning and Conversion

  • Specify and evaluate isolation transformers, filters, surge protection, and harmonic mitigation systems
  • Define UPS architecture including redundancy models, operating modes, and load segmentation
  • Provide guidance on AC to DC conversion systems and power supply requirements
  • Ensure reliability, safety, and noise control in all power conversion stages

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with electronics, hardware, manufacturing, and facility teams
  • Translate facility-level constraints into hardware-level engineering requirements
  • Participate in system design reviews and architecture trade studies
  • Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of integrated power systems

Documentation and Standards

  • Create electrical design standards and interface control documents
  • Define validation and commissioning procedures for facility power systems
  • Document design assumptions, risks, and mitigation strategies
  • Establish long-term guidelines for power system scalability and reliability

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Strong experience in power systems engineering or infrastructure design
  • Deep understanding of facility electrical systems including transformers, switchgear, UPS, grounding, and distribution networks
  • Strong knowledge of EMI, grounding, and power quality issues;
  • Experience translating system requirements into engineering specifications
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical teams
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary environments

Preferred:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience with data center or mission-critical infrastructure power systems
  • Strong background in power quality analysis including harmonics, transients, and voltage instability
  • Experience in EMI and EMC mitigation strategies
  • Knowledge of isolation transformers, filtering systems, and surge protection design
  • Experience defining UPS strategies for mixed criticality systems;
  • Familiarity with grounding and shielding design for sensitive electronics systems
  • Experience in semiconductor fabs, research labs, or large-scale scientific infrastructure

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Base salary range: $195,000 to $220,000 USD (standard US range)
  • Bay Area range: $250,000 to $260,000 USD
  • Full-time role with equity eligibility;
