Job Description
Job Title: Principal Engineering Manager. Location: Redmond, Washington, USA
Job Type: Full-Time (Hybrid, 3 days/week in office)
Responsibilities:
- Lead, hire, mentor, and retain a high-performing engineering team.
- Develop senior engineers into future technical leaders and engineering managers.
- Define the technical strategy and product direction for secure identity and authentication platforms.
- Deliver secure, scalable systems that protect users, AI agents, devices, and cloud services.
- Establish engineering standards for designing, testing, and deploying secure AI systems that are reliable, explainable, and reversible.
- Drive best practices for secure AI, authentication, and platform security;
- Foster a culture focused on security, operational excellence, reliability, and engineering quality.
- Collaborate with engineering leaders, executives, and cross-functional teams to shape product roadmaps.
- Represent engineering initiatives to Microsoft leadership and customers.
- Continuously incorporate customer and partner feedback into future platform improvements.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with at least 8 years of software engineering experience, or
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with at least 12 years of software engineering experience, or
- Equivalent professional experience;
- Strong programming experience in one or more of the following languages:
- C
- C++
- C#
- Java
- JavaScript
- Python
- Ability to meet Microsoft security screening requirements.
- Successfully complete the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hiring and every two years thereafter.
Preferred:
- 3+ years of engineering people management experience.
- Experience building large-scale identity platforms, distributed systems, or security systems.
- Experience leading technical strategy for enterprise-scale software platforms.
- Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Base salary:
- U.S.: $142,800 to $274,800 per year.
- San Francisco Bay Area & New York City: $188,000 to $304,200 per year.
- Eligible for additional benefits and compensation based on role and location.
- Hybrid work arrangement with three in-office days per week.
- Less than 25% travel required.
- Opportunities to lead cutting-edge work in AI security, authentication, and post-quantum security technologies.
