Principal Product Manager

Job Description

Job Title: Principal Product Manager. Location: Redmond, Washington, United States

Work Arrangement: Hybrid, minimum 3 days per week in the office

Responsibilities:

  • Define and drive product strategy for Microsoft's certificate and secret management platforms.
  • Lead large-scale security modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy infrastructure to cloud-native security platforms.
  • Collaborate with engineering, security, compliance, and service teams to protect cryptographic assets and reduce operational risks.
  • Promote secure-by-default capabilities, including hardware-backed key protection, automated certificate lifecycle management, and centralized secret governance.
  • Develop and execute roadmaps for cryptographic agility and post-quantum readiness across critical services;
  • Influence senior leaders and partner organizations to align priorities, investments, and adoption plans.
  • Use data and telemetry to identify risks, measure security improvements, and guide product investments.
  • Balance customer needs, operational excellence, regulatory requirements, and engineering constraints.
  • Lead complex cross-organizational initiatives involving multiple service teams and executive stakeholders.
  • Reduce security vulnerabilities and outage risks across Microsoft's service ecosystem;
  • Accelerate migration from legacy security infrastructure to modern cloud-native platforms.
  • Improve certificate and secret management practices through platform innovation and adoption.
  • Support Microsoft's long-term cryptographic agility and post-quantum readiness strategy.
  • Deliver measurable security improvements benefiting thousands of services and millions of customers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in product, service, or program management, or software development, or equivalent experience.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 12 years of experience in product, service, or program management, or software development, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience bringing a product, feature, or experience to market, including design, product-market fit, and launch.
  • At least 6 years of experience improving product metrics, such as customer growth, usage, or retention.
  • At least 6 years of experience establishing competitive advantages or replacing established products.
  • Several years of product management experience delivering platform, security, infrastructure, or distributed systems products.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives across multiple teams and organizations;
  • Ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority and drive execution in ambiguous situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership.
  • Experience in cloud security, identity, public key infrastructure (PKI), certificate management, secret management, key management, or cryptography.
  • Familiarity with Azure, distributed systems, security infrastructure, or enterprise platform services.
  • Experience leading security modernization, compliance, or risk-reduction programs;
  • Knowledge of cryptographic agility, TLS, certificate lifecycle management, hardware security modules (HSMs), Key Vault technologies, or post-quantum cryptography.
  • Experience with large-scale service operations and reliability programs.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • United States base salary: $142,800 to $274,800 per year.
  • San Francisco Bay Area and New York City: $188,000 to $304,200 per year.
  • Additional benefits and compensation may be available depending on role eligibility.
