Job Title: Senior Software Developer (Leap Web Services) [562]. Location: Remote, United States
Onboarding: Burnaby, Canada, for six weeks
Additional Travel: Minimum two weeks per year to Burnaby, Canada
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with product owners, software architects, developers, and cross-functional teams to deliver features from concept through deployment.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Develop new features and maintain services supporting D-Wave's Leap quantum-classical hybrid cloud platform.
- Independently own development tasks and contribute to moderately complex features and technical solutions.
- Identify inefficiencies in existing systems and implement improvements;
- Troubleshoot and resolve bugs through code-level and system-level analysis.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented software.
- Participate in peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback based on engineering best practices.
- Mentor junior and intermediate developers and support their technical development.
- Improve application performance, scalability, reliability, and availability.
- Identify technical blockers early and work with other teams to resolve them.
- Participate in D-Wave's annual Hackathon to explore and prototype new ideas;
- Participate in the on-call rotation after gaining sufficient knowledge of the system, typically after 6 to 12 months.
- Contribute to engineering practices and the technical direction of the Leap platform.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python for automation, scripting, and application development.
- Experience designing, implementing, and consuming REST APIs.
- Experience with Git workflows, including branching, merging, and pull requests.
- Experience developing software in a Linux environment;
- Strong understanding of software architecture, algorithms, asynchronous programming, and performance optimization.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn through exploration and feedback.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable approach.
- Interest in improving engineering processes and systems and supporting their implementation.
Preferred:
- Experience with Golang or Rust.
- Experience with high-performance computing environments and workload managers such as Slurm, PBS, or PBS Pro.
- Experience integrating heterogeneous hardware.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools for code generation, code review, testing, or documentation.
- Experience building AI-powered solutions to improve engineering productivity or automate workflows.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Spinnaker, or similar tools;
- Experience developing and deploying software in cloud environments such as AWS.
- Experience with Kubernetes and Argo CD, including deploying, managing, and troubleshooting cloud-native applications.
- Experience supporting production systems, including troubleshooting, incident response, and operational support.
- Quantum computing experience is not required, although an interest in learning quantum computing is valuable.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Anticipated annual salary range: $150,000 to $206,000 USD for the remote United States position.
- Actual compensation depends on experience, skills, qualifications, work location, and alignment with the role's responsibilities.

- The position may involve access to controlled information or technology subject to U.S. export control laws.
- Employment may require verification of U.S. Person status or D-Wave obtaining the necessary export license.
