Validation Engineer, Cryogenic

Job Description

Job Title: Validation Engineer, Cryogenic. Location: Milpitas, California, United States

This role supports the development of scalable quantum hardware by ensuring system reliability, performance, and measurement accuracy in extreme environments.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with design and experimental teams to apply best-known validation methods.
• Review and provide technical feedback on electro-optical assembly designs.
• Define figures of merit and validation plans for cryogenic electro-optical systems;
• Design and build cryogenic laboratory setups using optical and electrical test equipment.
• Validate system functionality in cryogenic environments through structured test execution.
• Develop software scripts to automate measurements and store results in databases.
• Contribute to algorithm development for data analysis and performance extraction.
• Debug, characterize, and document cryogenic electro-optical assemblies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience;
• Hands-on experience testing systems in cryogenic environments.
• Experience with optical and electrical test equipment, including:
  • Optical power meters
  • Lasers
  • Optical spectrum analyzers
  • Oscilloscopes
  • Function generators
  • Vector network analyzers
• Experience developing test methods, calibration routines, and optimization workflows.

Preferred:

• Experience working with single-photon detectors.
• Experience with optical fibers and photonic integrated circuits.

Compensation and Benefits:

$130,000 to $145,000 USD

$150,000 to $162,000 USD

• Equity and full benefits package for full-time employees.

• Base pay may be adjusted in the future.
