Job Description
Job Title: Senior Advanced Materials and Process Engineer. Location: Broomfield, CO, United States
This role focuses on reliability, scalability, and manufacturability of complex hardware systems and works closely with research, manufacturing and quality teams. The position is primarily on-site to support close collaboration, with limited remote work flexibility subject to approval.
Responsibilities:
- Select and qualify materials and processes based on mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties.
- Research and validate advanced materials for use in quantum hardware systems.
- Design and implement scalable manufacturing processes for precision components and assemblies.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, controls, and standards to improve yield and repeatability.
- Partner with design, quality, and material management teams to ensure material compatibility and maintain approved materials lists.
- Support prototype builds and identify process improvement opportunities.
- Analyze material and process failures, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, technicians, and material management teams across programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree at minimum.
- At least 4 years of experience in advanced materials and process engineering.
- Must be a U.S. Person, including U.S. citizen, permanent resident, green card holder, or individuals with asylum or refugee status.
- Must meet U.S. national security requirements and eligibility restrictions.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with complex hardware systems such as cryogenic, optical, photonic, electronic, or aerospace systems.
- Proven ability to scale processes from research to production;
- Hands-on problem-solving experience with direct involvement in R&D and manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of failure analysis tools such as SEM and XPS.
- Proficiency in GD&T and process validation methods.
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification;
- Experience with optical components, including passive and active optics.
- Experience with reliability testing of optical and opto-mechanical systems.
- Strong data analysis skills related to hardware performance.
- Excellent organization, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with teams.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary range: $127,000 to $158,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
