Job Title: Intern, Optical Packaging and Characterization Engineer. Location: Milpitas, California, USA
Job Type: Internship, On-site
Responsibilities:
- Assist with optical microscopy setup, imaging, and consistent capture of measurement images and metadata.
- Support image processing workflows such as contrast adjustment, alignment, and feature extraction using Python or similar tools.
- Convert experimental results into structured tables, plots, and reports for engineering teams.
- Contribute to drafting and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for optical measurement processes.
- Organize experimental datasets and maintain detailed lab notes;
- Support design-of-experiments (DOE) summaries and analysis for engineering workflows.
- Improve documentation quality, data organization, and measurement repeatability.
- Participate in continuous improvement of optical measurement and characterization methods.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, or a related field.
- Coursework or practical exposure to optical microscopy, including imaging modes, resolution, illumination, and basic alignment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured experimental procedures;
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a laboratory environment.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with JMP or similar statistical tools for data visualization or DOE analysis.
- Experience with Python for image processing, scripting, or data analysis.
- Exposure to mechanical wafer bow or substrate warpage concepts;
- Understanding of optical alignment, beam matching, and measurement sensitivity concepts.
- Interest in optical measurement systems and experimental physics.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Hourly pay ranges from $27.50 to $47.00 depending on education level.
