Job Description
Job Title: Materials Engineer, Quantum AI. Location: Santa Barbara, CA, USA
Responsibilities:
- Research and develop new materials for wiring, interconnects, and packaging used in superconducting quantum computing systems.
- Develop and optimize fabrication processes in collaboration with vendors and integrate them into manufacturing flows.
- Specify, procure, and commission capital processing and testing equipment;
- Provide technical direction and support for externally performed fabrication processes.
- Improve and sustain existing materials and fabrication processes with focus on performance, yield, throughput, and reliability.
- Collaborate with research scientists and hardware engineers to advance superconducting quantum hardware stacks, including packaging, input/output systems, and filtering components.
- Conduct experimental validation of materials and processes through lab testing and performance analysis.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in a fabrication environment such as semiconductor cleanroom, PCB manufacturing, or materials production.
- Experience with thin film deposition methods such as PVD, PECVD, or electroplating;
Preferred:
- Experience with multiple thin film deposition techniques such as CVD, ALD, MBE, or electroplating.
- Experience with metrology and failure analysis tools such as SEM, EDAX, profilometers, FIB, and cross-section analysis.
- Experience working with superconducting materials.
- Experience in yield improvement using Six Sigma, SPC, and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Experience in reliability engineering and failure analysis.

- Base salary range: $159,000 to $231,000 per year.
