Engineering Program Manager

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Engineering Program Manager. Location: New Haven, Connecticut, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with engineering leads to develop and execute detailed project plans for engineering programs.
  • Define and implement project metrics and KPIs to monitor progress, project health, and delivery timelines.
  • Manage schedules for critical engineering operations, including system cooldown and testing cycles.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement process improvements to reduce downtime and improve execution efficiency.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve engineering workflows to increase team productivity.
  • Optimize project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms by creating workflows, automation rules, dashboards, and reporting systems.
  • Coordinate the Product Life Cycle (PLC) from development through productization;
  • Establish and maintain configuration management processes, including documentation, change control, and system integrity.
  • Support the transition of research and development systems into scalable, production-ready products.
  • Act as the primary coordination point between hardware, software, and operations teams.
  • Prepare technical documentation, project reports, executive presentations, and status updates.
  • Track project risks, dependencies, and milestones while ensuring stakeholders remain informed.
  • Remove technical and operational roadblocks to keep engineering projects on schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience as an Engineering Program Manager or Technical Project Manager in a complex hardware and software engineering environment such as semiconductors, aerospace, deep technology, or advanced testing systems.
  • At least 2 years of engineering experience in a complex hardware and software environment.
  • Proven ability to estimate project effort, develop detailed project plans, and successfully deliver engineering programs.
  • Experience balancing technical risks with operational constraints;
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in ambiguous environments.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating across multiple engineering teams and influencing stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience using project management and documentation tools including Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, or Smartsheet.
  • Experience managing Product Life Cycles (PLC), Bills of Materials (BOMs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and document control systems.
  • Experience working with physical systems, hardware integration, or operational facilities.
  • Proven ability to improve processes and implement scalable engineering workflows with minimal supervision.

  • Base salary range: $105,000 to $157,000 USD.
