Job Description
Job Title: Field Service Engineer. Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States (Hybrid and remote options available)
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer inquiries and technical support related to cryogenic single photon detectors (SNSPD systems).
- Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues reported by customers, providing timely and accurate solutions.
- Perform product installation and training both remotely and on-site.
- Collaborate with R&D, Test, and Manufacturing teams to resolve complex customer issues.
- Document all customer interactions, including issues and resolutions.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of support documentation, FAQs, and knowledge base articles.
- Stay current on product updates, features, and industry trends to provide proactive support.
- Continuously improve customer support processes to enhance customer experience.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with at least three of the following: Cryogenics, High Vacuum, Optical Metrology, RF Electronics, PLC Programming, or Network Architecture.
- Proven track record of troubleshooting complex, multidisciplinary systems integrating hardware and software.
- Strong ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders;
- Valid driver’s license with willingness to travel globally for on-site installations and support.
- Self-starter with the ability to work under pressure and thrive in collaborative, fast-paced environments.
Preferred:
- Understanding of the interaction between multiple technical domains, e.g., how RF noise affects optical measurements in cryogenic environments.
- Experience managing end-to-end installations or complex site surveys independently.
- Product ownership mindset: identifying root causes and suggesting design improvements;
- Proficiency in industry tools such as LabVIEW, Python for automation, or advanced CAD viewers.
- Fluency in multiple languages reflecting a global customer base.
- Experience coaching junior engineers or creating technical documentation to elevate team knowledge.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Base salary: $110,336 - $144,459 (varies based on experience, skills, and location).
- Total compensation includes base salary, bonus, and equity.

- Travel requirement: approximately 70%.
