Job Description

Job Title: Staff Hardware Design Engineer. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

As a Staff Hardware Design Engineer, you will join the Electronics team to design and build critical hardware components of our quantum system; You’ll work closely with engineers from thermal, mechanical, firmware, and optical teams.

Responsibilities:

• Design schematics and manage PCB layouts for analog and digital circuitry, including high-speed transceivers, FPGAs, microcontrollers, and power systems.
• Ensure signal integrity and EMI suppression in all hardware designs;
• Develop test setups for electro-optic modules and create test software to control measurements.
• Use tools like oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, and signal generators to debug and optimize circuit designs.
• Analyze performance data and document key findings and results;
• Maintain detailed technical documentation and work collaboratively across teams.

Required:

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in product development, from prototype to volume manufacturing.
• Strong experience with analog, digital, and electro-optic circuitry.
• Familiarity with the following tools and languages:
  • Orcad Schematic Capture, Allegro PCB Layout
  • C++, Python, VHDL or Verilog
  • Keysight PathWave ADS
  • Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven team player, able to collaborate across functions and locations.

Benefits:

• Base salary range: $180,000 - $225,000 USD (Bay Area)
