HW Developer Intern: Systems Assurance

Job Description

Job Title: HW Developer Intern: Systems Assurance - Rochester, MN - 2027. Location: Rochester, Minnesota, USA
Job Type: Internship, Co-op (Fixed Term), Hybrid

Responsibilities:

  • Install and test hardware systems hands-on.
  • Validate and characterize processors and complete systems.
  • Support customers and field engineers with technical solutions.
  • Design and test firmware architectures;
  • Analyze system failures and identify ways to improve reliability.
  • Automate test suites and simulate customer environments.
  • Develop and document test plans and procedures.
  • Contribute to internal and external code repositories.
  • Collaborate with global development teams.
  • Install, configure, and validate AI large language models (LLMs).
  • Contribute to the development, testing, and support of IBM technologies, including IBM zSystems, IBM Power Systems, IBM Storage, and IBM Quantum Systems.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Understanding of client-server architectures and networking protocols.
  • Experience with application development and databases.
  • Ability to design scalable APIs, servers, services, and applications.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies;
  • Strong communication, design, and testing skills.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and a client-first mindset.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering principles and concepts.
  • Basic understanding of firmware engineering.
  • Exposure to electrical engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with hardware development and technology products.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Projected salary range of $73,500 to $134,750 per year.
  • Eligible Supplemental 1 employees may receive up to 8 paid holidays.
  • Minimum of 56 hours of paid sick time.
  • Access to the IBM Employee Stock Purchase Plan;
  • Paid family medical leave and disability benefits for eligible employees where required by law.
  • Opportunities to develop technical skills while working with IBM's global development teams.

Other Information:

  • Work arrangement: Hybrid.
  • Travel: No travel required.
  • Visa sponsorship: IBM will not provide current or future visa sponsorship. Candidates must be able to work without sponsorship.
  • The position is a fixed-term co-op/internship role.
