Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Scientist - Chemistry. Location: United States, Remote

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop innovative quantum algorithms for fault-tolerant quantum computers, with a focus on computational chemistry applications.
• Improve quantum algorithm efficiency by reducing qubit requirements, gate complexity, and overall resource requirements.
• Identify high-value applications for quantum computing in chemistry-related industries.
• Evaluate the feasibility and scalability of new algorithms and applications through rigorous resource estimation.
• Compare quantum approaches with state-of-the-art classical methods;
• Collaborate with PennyLane software developers to develop advanced tools for quantum algorithm research.
• Work closely with software, hardware, business development, industry, government, and academic partners.
• Conduct independent research while contributing effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
• Author scientific papers, technical reports, and comprehensive research documentation.
• Generate intellectual property and support related patent filings.
• Present research findings to strategic partners and at conferences and other industry events.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong research track record in computational chemistry and quantum computing, demonstrated through publications, patents, or technical work.
• Deep knowledge of quantum chemistry methods for ground and excited states, including DFT, CASSCF/CASCI, MRCI, DMRG, Coupled Cluster, and QMC.
• Knowledge of fundamental quantum algorithm concepts, including Hamiltonian simulation, Trotter product formulas, quantum signal processing, linear combinations of unitaries, amplitude amplification, quantum phase estimation, and quantum read-only memories;
• Expertise in applications related to quantum chemistry, materials science, pharmaceuticals, or related fields.
• Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and independently lead research.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
• Strong self-management skills and the ability to manage priorities, deadlines, and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

• Experience with constant-factor resource estimation for fault-tolerant quantum algorithms.
• Experience using or developing quantum chemistry software such as PySCF, Gaussian, Q-Chem, ORCA, Psi4, NWChem, MOLCAS, or GAMESS.
• Experience collaborating with industry or government partners.
• Strong software development and scientific programming skills in Python.
• HPC expertise.
