Operations Engineer - Cyro-Mechanical

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Operations Engineer - Cryo-Mechanical. Location: Redmond, Washington, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution for cryo-mechanical engineering initiatives, including cryostat installations, maintenance, upgrades, and related mechanical designs.
  • Develop and maintain integrated program schedules, critical paths, and risk mitigation plans across internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Develop automated processes to reduce overhead while supporting robust scheduling, record keeping, and inventory management.
  • Introduce tools, dashboards, and reporting systems that improve predictability, traceability, and engineering throughput.
  • Design, build, and deliver solutions that transform large raw datasets into actionable insights for ongoing operational use;
  • Develop tactical schedules that coordinate simultaneous operations, anticipate coverage gaps, and help leadership address them proactively.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, supply chain teams, fabrication partners, system integrators, and leadership.
  • Support high-quality hardware delivery within aggressive timelines.
  • Establish effective workflows, communication channels, technical deliverables, and accountability structures across teams and vendors.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 3+ years of technical engineering experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 5+ years of technical engineering experience; or equivalent experience;
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Ability to provide citizenship or permanent residency documentation for assessment of eligibility to access export-controlled information.
  • Successful completion of the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred:

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 3+ years of technical engineering experience; or
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience; or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year of experience reading and/or writing code.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve innovation and operational efficiency, including measurement, performance modeling, analysis, research, and task automation.
  • Ability to work in an AI-first environment using modern AI tools;
  • Experience building project schedules, managing budgets, planning resources, and working across matrixed teams.
  • Experience establishing communication channels, technical deliverables, and accountability structures with vendors and internal engineering teams.
  • Experience developing workflows for design reviews, DFM/DFT validation, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Experience creating systems and reports to track equipment configurations across sites, identify available resources, and forecast future requirements.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Typical U.S. base salary range: $119,800 to $234,700 per year.
  • San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area range: $160,200 to $261,000 per year.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation;
  • Microsoft provides additional benefits and pay information through its corporate pay resources.
