Job Description
Job Title: Principal Hardware Design Engineer. Location: Milpitas, California, USA
Responsibilities:
- Design hardware, create schematics, and oversee PCB layouts for analog and digital circuitry.
- Develop hardware involving high-speed transceivers, 10+ Gbps electrical and optical data links, FPGAs, microcontrollers, clock distribution, power supply filters, inrush current limiters, and power distribution.
- Ensure robust signal integrity and electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppression across hardware designs.
- Design and build test setups for electro-optic modules.
- Characterize, optimize, and debug analog, digital, and electro-optic circuitry;
- Use mixed-signal and sampling oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, signal generators, multimeters, and DC power supplies for hardware testing.
- Develop software to drive hardware measurements and testing.
- Analyze measurement data and extract key performance parameters.
- Maintain detailed documentation covering hardware designs, test results, and design changes.
- Collaborate with thermal, mechanical, firmware, and optical engineering teams.
- Ensure hardware designs meet the requirements of the overall quantum computer system architecture and physical framework.
Qualifications:
- Master's or Ph.D. degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent field.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in product development and release to volume manufacturing.
- Experience leading the development of multiple successful commercial products;
- Strong experience in hardware design, testing, debugging, and product development.

- Estimated annual base salary:
- Zone 1, Bay Area and NYC: $235,600 to $276,800
- Zone 2, including Los Angeles and Washington, DC: $212,000 to $249,100
- Zone 3, including Austin, Chicago, and Sacramento: $188,400 to $221,400
- Zone 4, including Nashville and Phoenix/Tempe: $164,900 to $193,800

- The role is based in PsiQuantum's Milpitas, California office and requires working on-site five days per week.
