Quantum Architect, Fault-Tolerance

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Architect, Fault-Tolerance. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

Candidates will use simulations and PsiQuantum’s internal software tools, requiring strong knowledge of Python and quantum computing principles.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop new fault-tolerance protocols for fusion-based quantum computation and entangled state generation.
• Model the origin and propagation of errors in quantum systems.
• Simulate, benchmark, and analyze different fault-tolerant protocols;
• Collaborate with the wider team to co-develop quantum computing architecture and communicate results effectively.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of internal simulation software.

Qualifications:

• Degree in Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science, or equivalent required.
• PhD in Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science with focus on quantum information theory or quantum computation preferred.
• 3+ years of relevant academic or industry research experience in quantum error correction and/or linear optical quantum computing.
• Strong knowledge of quantum information, error-correction, linear optical quantum computing, and quantum networks.
• Familiarity with graphical calculus methods such as tensor networks or ZX calculus is preferred.
• Creativity in developing new quantum information processing methods;
• Proven ability to work effectively across teams, departments, sites, and time zones.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-moving start-up environment.
• Competence in Python programming; knowledge of C++ or other languages is desirable.
• Experience with collaborative software tools (e.g., GitHub) is a plus.

Preferred:

• Experience with linear optical quantum computing simulations.
• Familiarity with fault-tolerant protocol design and benchmarking.

Benefits and Compensation:

• U.S. Base Pay Range: $120,000 - $140,000 USD
• Bay Area Pay Range: $155,000 - $170,000 USD
• Full-time roles eligible for equity and benefits packages.
• Compensation depends on education, experience, location, and business needs.
