Quantum Control Hardware Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Staff Quantum Control Hardware Engineer. Location: Bothell, Washington, Vista, California, United States

As a Staff Quantum Control Hardware Engineer, you will lead the design of low-noise, high-precision mixed-signal hardware that controls optical systems and reads single-photon detectors; Your work will directly support quantum key distribution, entanglement distribution and next-generation quantum networking infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop low-noise, high-precision mixed-signal circuit boards using ADCs and DACs
  • Build hardware to drive optical modulators and laser sources for quantum networking protocols
  • Design ultra-low-noise readout interfaces for single-photon detectors used in QKD and sensing
  • Ensure signal integrity and coherence to preserve quantum states during transmission;
  • Collaborate with FPGA engineers to align timing, synchronization, and signal conditioning needs
  • Lead the full hardware lifecycle including schematics, PCB layout, simulation, testing, and system integration
  • Troubleshoot complex hardware systems to reduce phase noise and jitter
  • Mentor junior engineers and guide technical decisions for physical layer architecture

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • 8 or more years of experience in mixed-signal hardware design and PCB layout
  • Strong background in low-noise analog circuit design and precision instrumentation
  • Experience with high-speed ADCs, DACs, and signal conditioning chains;
  • Proficiency with EDA tools such as Altium or Cadence
  • Solid understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, and grounding techniques

Preferred:

  • Experience with low-latency networks or optical communication systems
  • Background in quantum communication or quantum networking hardware;
  • Familiarity with precision sensing systems such as magnetometers or atomic clocks
  • Experience interfacing hardware with FPGA-based timing systems
  • Knowledge of fiber-optic component control

  • Base salary range: $128,119 to $167,740 per year
