Job Description

Job Title: Senior Quantum Engineer, Superconducting Qubits. Location: Berkeley, CA or Fremont, CA

Responsibilities:

• Develop experimental programs on superconducting qubit devices.
• Design, optimize, and implement high-fidelity quantum gates.
• Create and test novel control and coupling strategies.
• Identify fundamental performance bottlenecks and determine their physical origin.
• Analyze experimental data rigorously to extract meaningful insights;
• Collaborate with device, fabrication, and control teams to translate concepts into hardware progress.
• Contribute to defining the roadmap for quantum hardware platforms rather than just following existing plans.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Extensive hands-on experience with superconducting qubits.
• Strong expertise in gate design, pulse engineering, and decoherence mechanisms;
• Proven ability to independently lead complex experimental efforts from concept to validated results.
• Intellectual independence, technical courage, and strong data-driven decision-making.
• Motivation to work at the highest technical level in the quantum computing field.

Preferred:

• Experience contributing to platform-level hardware decisions.
• Ability to define experimental strategies with real ownership and visible impact.

• Base salary: $170,000 – $205,000 per year (depending on experience, skills, and location).
