Quantum Error Correction Research Scientist

Job Description

Job Title: Principal Quantum Error Correction Research Scientist. Location: Redmond, Washington, Santa Clara, California

You will work across product, engineering, and research teams, as well as with industry partners, to help move theory into real-world quantum hardware and software.

Responsibilities:

Explore new technical approaches in quantum error correction and fault tolerance.
Develop improved quantum error correction codes and logical operations;
Create methods for implementation, concatenation, synthesis, distillation, and other techniques that support fault tolerance.
Work with product, engineering, and applied research teams to build components for a fault-tolerant quantum software stack that connects with quantum hardware.
Collaborate with industry partners to support the broader quantum ecosystem;
Contribute to a culture of technical depth, collaboration, fast innovation, and practical problem solving.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, or a related engineering field. A Ph.D. is preferred.
Twelve or more years of experience in the quantum computing industry.
Strong background in Quantum Information Science;
Proven record of delivering meaningful results in quantum error correction and fault tolerance.

Preferred:

Hands-on experience in scientific computing or high-performance computing.
Background in applied machine learning or deep learning;
Experience with co-design of quantum error correction methods with quantum hardware or quantum software applications.
Familiarity with CUDA and NVIDIA GPUs;
Strong interest in bringing technical innovations into software and hardware products.
