Job Title: Quantum Error Correction Software Engineer. Location: Redmond, WA, USA; Santa Barbara, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop infrastructure to evaluate fault-tolerance strategies for quantum computing systems.
• Collaborate with theoretical and experimental teams to advance scalable quantum architectures.
• Implement and improve quantum error correction codes for both logical and physical qubits;
• Support research and experimentation toward building scalable and resilient quantum computers.
• Solve complex technical challenges through creative problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.
• Contribute to a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
• Apply AI tools to accelerate engineering tasks, including performance modeling, analysis, and automation.
• Embody Microsoft’s culture and values in daily work.

Qualifications:

• Doctorate with 1+ years, Master’s with 3+ years, or Bachelor’s with 4+ years of experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience developing commercial software, compilers, scientific computing applications, or multi-component systems.
• 4+ years of programming experience in relevant languages;
• Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments.
• Ability to meet Microsoft security screening requirements, including background checks and export control compliance.
• Ability to use AI tools to enhance engineering productivity and innovation.

Preferred:

• Advanced degree with additional years of relevant software engineering experience (Doctorate with 3+ years, Master’s with 6+ years, or Bachelor’s with 8+ years).
• Experience with high-performance computing (HPC), scientific programming, or computational mathematics.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Benefits and Compensation:

• Salary range (IC4): $119,800 – $234,700 per year (higher ranges apply in select locations such as San Francisco Bay Area and New York City).
• Salary range (IC5): $139,900 – $274,800 per year (higher ranges in select locations).

Other Information:

• Work model: 3 days per week in-office.
• Travel requirement: less than 25%.
