Job Description
Job Title: Research Software Engineer, Calibration, MQS Center for Quantum Computing. Location: United States (Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. - B02)
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop scalable, intuitive software frameworks for running quantum computing experiments and analyzing experimental data.
- Build Python APIs, scientific software frameworks, data analysis pipelines, and calibration workflows.
- Develop and improve quantum calibration techniques to support larger quantum devices.
- Optimize experiment execution and analysis tools to increase research throughput.
- Create dashboards that allow researchers to monitor, inspect, and control quantum device calibration.
- Deploy, maintain, and improve cloud infrastructure supporting quantum research workflows;
- Collaborate closely with experimental physicists and research scientists to understand scientific requirements.
- Translate scientific requirements into practical software designs while balancing performance and development time.
- Mentor scientists and researchers in contributing to the software codebase through documentation and best practices.
- Coordinate with software engineers and researchers to deliver new features and improvements.
- Stay current with advances in experimental quantum computing and scientific software development.
Qualifications:
- PhD or at least 6 years of applied research experience.
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or similar programming languages.
- Experience with the complete software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, testing, build processes, and operations.
- Experience collaborating with scientists in a research environment;
- At least 1 year of experience developing calibration software for experimental quantum computing.
- Strong software engineering, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to independently manage projects from design through implementation.
Preferred:
- Experience with quantum control hardware.
- Experience working with SQL databases.
- Experience using AWS services and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with GraphQL and React.
- Experience applying machine learning and AI techniques.
- Familiarity with open-source scientific software.
- Experience with quantum simulation.
