Job Description
Job Title: Principal Semiconductor Trap Fabrication Scientist - 842. Location: Malta, New York, USA
Responsibilities:
- Participate in every stage of microfabricated ion trap development, including concept creation, design, layout, fabrication, packaging, and characterization.
- Assess current and future ion trap requirements and develop designs and fabrication processes that meet performance objectives.
- Generate innovative ideas and intellectual property for ion trap features and semiconductor components;
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to translate system requirements into functional quantum hardware.
- Identify fabrication risks proactively and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Lead collaborations with third-party partners, semiconductor suppliers, and co-development organizations.
- Develop long-term strategic plans for future ion trap designs and manufacturing processes.
- Support continuous improvement of semiconductor fabrication technologies for scalable quantum computing.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree with at least 10 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
- MEMS fabrication
- Integrated circuit (IC) fabrication
- Integrated optics or waveguides
- Ion trap fabrication
- Chip-scale photonics
- Must qualify as a U.S. Person, including:
- U.S. citizen
- Permanent resident (Green Card holder)
- Individual granted asylum or refugee status
- Due to U.S. Government national security requirements, applicants must not be nationals of the People's Republic of China or Russia unless they are also U.S. citizens.
Preferred:
- PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated leadership in microfabricated device design, process development, and characterization.
- Experience developing ion traps, integrated photonics, or related quantum devices.
- Experience working with semiconductor foundries.
- Strong background in process integration and semiconductor manufacturing.
- Experience with semiconductor and MEMS fabrication processes, including:
- Thin-film deposition
- Photolithography
- Additive and subtractive patterning
- Deep Reactive Ion Etching (DRIE)
- Process integration
- 2.5D and 3D packaging
- Strong research record with published scientific work.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
