Silicon Physical Design Engineer, Quantum

Job Description

Job Title: Staff Silicon Physical Design Engineer, Quantum AI. Location: Mountain View, CA, USA; Goleta, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Own development and maintenance of industry-standard ASIC implementation flows for quantum control electronics.
  • Execute full RTL-to-GDS2 physical design flow including synthesis, floorplanning, place and route, and clock tree synthesis (CTS).
  • Perform timing constraint generation and manage static timing analysis (STA).
  • Conduct design for test (DFT) including scan, MBIST, and BISR;
  • Handle sign-off processes including LVS, DRC, and electrical rule checks.
  • Evaluate design tradeoffs across power, performance, and area (PPA).
  • Collaborate with architecture and design teams on ASIC design decisions.
  • Manage execution of quantum control IC implementation with internal and external vendors.
  • Oversee backend execution, packaging, schedules, documentation, and quality metrics.
  • Contribute to foundry coordination and post-silicon validation activities;
  • Support IP evaluation, negotiation, and vendor selection processes.
  • Provide technical leadership across ASIC implementation programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in physical implementation of high-performance ASICs.
  • Experience building ASIC implementation flows (RTL-to-GDS2);
  • Strong knowledge of STA, physical verification, and electrical rule checking.
  • Experience managing ASIC vendors and post-silicon quality workflows.
  • Familiarity with SI/PI analysis and package design strategies.
  • Experience with pre-silicon and post-silicon DFT techniques.

Preferred:

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Technical leadership experience in complex ASIC implementation projects.
  • Strong experience in vendor management and program execution;
  • Background in quantum electronics or high-performance computing systems.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Salary range: $192,000–$279,000 USD annually.
  • Additional target bonus up to 20 percent.
