Job Description

Job Title: Software Development Engineer Intern, Amazon Leo - Summer 2027 (USA). Location: Redmond, WA, USA

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with experienced engineers across disciplines to design, build, and operate innovative products and services.
• Participate in technical discussions and contribute to engineering solutions.
• Break down complex and ambiguous problems into well-defined, solvable components.
• Contribute to the design and development of scalable and reliable services.
• Participate in code reviews, including reviewing and validating AI-generated code;
• Write clear and accurate technical documentation.
• Use generative AI and AI-powered development tools to improve productivity.
• Critically evaluate, verify, and integrate AI-generated code.
• Write clean, maintainable code using established best practices and design patterns.
• Work in an agile development environment using continuous integration and continuous delivery principles.
• Participate in operational responsibilities, including on-call duties where applicable;
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues.
• Take ownership of projects from design through deployment and ongoing operation.
• Work with a manager and mentor while contributing to meaningful technical projects.
• Participate in professional development, networking, and activities with other Amazon interns.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM field.
• Experience with at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Experience with data structures, basic algorithm development, and/or object-oriented design principles.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in an academic or professional setting.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week during the internship;
• Ability to commit to a maximum 12-week internship.
• Expected degree conferral date between October 2027 and September 2029.
• Must have at least one quarter, semester, or trimester remaining in the degree program after the internship concludes.

Preferred:

• Previous technical internship experience or demonstrated technical project experience.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Experience with SQL or NoSQL database systems.
• Experience using AI tools to improve development productivity.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
• Experience with version control systems.
• Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, building, deployment, and associated timelines.
• Strong problem decomposition, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Demonstrated ownership and initiative from design through operation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies.

Internship Schedule:

• Primary season: Summer 2027.
• Duration: 12 weeks.
• Expected Summer 2027 period: May/June through August/September.
• Additional potential seasons:
  • Winter 2027: January/February through April/May.
  • Fall 2027: August/September through November/December.
• Non-summer placement is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.
• Interns are expected to work in the office Monday through Friday, typically between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with specific team schedules determined by the manager.
• Interns should not have classes or other employment conflicts during Amazon's working hours.
