Job Description

Job Title: Senior Applied Scientist, Materials and Process Development, AWS Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, California, USA

Responsibilities:

• Develop and optimize materials for superconducting quantum hardware, focusing on thin-film deposition processes and materials solutions that support integration architectures for increasing qubit density.

• Establish process-structure-property relationships for production-relevant films and interfaces.

• Qualify new tools and process modules for materials integration.

• Design materials integration schemes compatible with larger wafer formats.

• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to translate materials advances into production;

• Drive materials integration research and development from process development through hardware demonstration.

• Stay informed about advances in superconducting materials and semiconductor manufacturing.

• Publish research findings in scientific journals when appropriate.

• Apply scientific and engineering principles to solve complex problems and improve device performance.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or an equivalent field.

• Expertise in thin-film deposition and process integration at the 200 mm wafer scale or larger.

• Expertise in thin-film characterization.

Preferred:

• Experience successfully delivering projects through cross-functional collaboration.

• Proficiency in a scientific programming environment.

• Familiarity with superconducting materials and their integration into device fabrication processes.

• Experience developing novel materials or deposition processes for advanced device architectures.

• Experience with 3D integration;

• Demonstrated ability to translate materials or process integration advances into improved device performance.

• Experience with wafer-scale materials integration for superconducting or semiconductor devices is preferred.

Benefits and Compensation:

Base salary: $167,100 to $226,100 USD annually.

Final compensation will depend on experience, qualifications, and location. The compensation package also includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
