Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Professor of Quantum Computing & AI. Location: North Andover, MA (On-site). Type: Full-time, Tenure Track. Start Date: Fall 2026

Merrimack College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Quantum Computing & AI within the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences; This role supports Merrimack’s vision of becoming a top regional research university, with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research, teaching, and community impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead an independent, externally funded research program in areas such as quantum-AI hybrid systems, quantum algorithms, quantum cybersecurity, or AI-enhanced quantum simulations.
  • Direct and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research projects.
  • Teach courses in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and related fields at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Contribute to the growth of Merrimack’s new quantum computing hub, fostering collaboration and expanding opportunities for research and education.
  • Support the College’s strategic plan, including its pursuit of Carnegie R2 status for high research productivity;
  • Collaborate across disciplines to enhance Merrimack’s research distinction and contribute to future doctoral programs in applied engineering and computational sciences.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Quantum Computing, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
  • Strong record of research with publications in quantum computing, AI, or related interdisciplinary areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure or potential to secure external research funding;
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching and student mentorship.
  • Experience or interest in building programs that bridge research, teaching, and applied science.
