Job Title: External Relations Professional. Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States. Travel Requirement: Some travel may be required. Visa Sponsorship: Not available
You’ll join a high-impact team supporting strategic media relations and content development; Working directly with researchers and executive stakeholders, you will lead storytelling initiatives that position IBM as a driver of transformational change across industries.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute external communications strategies for IBM Research, particularly in areas such as quantum computing, AI, hybrid cloud, and next-gen semiconductors.
- Craft compelling content including press releases, blogs, FAQs, media plans, and pitches.
- Build and manage strong relationships with journalists, influencers, and media outlets;
- Collaborate with IBM researchers to identify newsworthy developments and translate them into clear, accessible stories.
- Align media efforts with IBM’s broader corporate communications, marketing, and social media teams.
- Coordinate and manage press events, briefings, and media engagements;
- Track and analyze media coverage and trends; provide actionable insights to enhance outreach.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and develop relevant content and strategies accordingly.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 6+ years of experience in technology media relations, marketing communications, or related fields
- Proven track record in planning and executing media campaigns;
- Strong experience in media engagement, with ability to pitch and manage press relationships
- Strategic advisor to executives with the ability to present confidently
Preferred:
- Experience working with complex technical subject matter, particularly in enterprise or emerging tech
- Understanding of IBM’s research areas such as quantum computing, AI, and semiconductors
- Familiarity with developing content in collaboration with creative, internal comms, and social media teams
