Job Description
Job Title: Quantum Applied Scientist, AWS Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, California, USA
Responsibilities:
- Develop novel calibration and optimization routines for integrated quantum processors.
- Test and validate experimental calibration methods on quantum processors operating in cryogenic environments.
- Automate calibration and optimization workflows to verify processor performance at scale.
- Contribute to the development and demonstration of quantum error correction (QEC) techniques.
- Lead high-impact research projects that align with AWS's quantum engineering roadmap;
- Characterize integrated quantum processors designed and fabricated at the AWS Center for Quantum Computing.
- Collaborate with Software Development Engineers to develop and test calibration and optimization software.
- Work with System Engineers to define component-level requirements for next-generation quantum processors.
- Partner with quantum error correction researchers to evaluate and improve logical qubit performance.
- Communicate research findings and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field, or a Master's degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
- At least 3 years of experience building models for practical applications.
- Experience publishing research in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals or contributing to patents.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, C++, or similar programming languages;
- Experience with algorithms, data structures, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, or high-performance computing.
- Strong engineering mindset with excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Experience with experimental measurement techniques and software automation is highly desirable.
Preferred:
- Experience working with Unix/Linux systems.
- Professional software development experience.
- Experience developing scalable scientific software tools.
- Background in experimental quantum computing or quantum processor characterization.
- Familiarity with calibration, optimization, and measurement of superconducting quantum processors.

- Annual base salary: $142,800 to $193,200 USD, depending on qualifications, experience, and location.
