Job Description
Job Title: Staff Scientist – Quantum Applications. Location: Remote, United States
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across multiple quantum application projects.
- Establish best practices for benchmarking, performance analysis, and solution design.
- Develop, implement, and optimize novel quantum algorithms for applications in computational chemistry, optimization, and machine learning.
- Collaborate with customers and partners to solve real-world problems using trapped-ion quantum computers.
- Conduct performance benchmarking and publish results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences;
- Drive high-impact quantum applications that contribute to scientific and commercial advancements.
- Support strategic initiatives, including collaborations with academic institutions such as the University of Chicago.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to team development and culture.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in quantum computing, applied algorithms, or advanced scientific computing, or equivalent experience.
- Strong programming expertise in Python and/or C++.
- Hands-on experience with Qiskit or similar quantum SDKs.
- Proven experience developing and optimizing quantum algorithms in areas such as chemistry, optimization, or machine learning.
- Demonstrated track record of innovation through publications, patents, or open-source contributions;
- Deep understanding of quantum computing concepts and ability to communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
- Strong collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience leading end-to-end quantum application projects;
- Expertise in variational quantum algorithms and hybrid quantum-classical workflows across CPUs, GPUs, and QPUs.
- Experience optimizing algorithms for NISQ systems and fault-tolerant quantum computers.
- Knowledge of quantum resource estimation, benchmarking, and scalability analysis.
- Experience working with customers, industry partners, or government organizations.

- Base salary range: $167,808 – $219,704 per year.
- Total compensation includes base salary, bonus, and equity.

Other Information:
- Travel requirement: approximately 10% for customer engagements and conferences.
