Job Description

Job Title: Senior Research Scientist, Superconducting Digital Electronics, Quantum AI. Location: Cambridge, MA, USA; Mountain View, CA, USA; Seattle, WA, USA; San Francisco, CA, USA; Washington, DC, USA; Goleta, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Design and simulate superconducting digital logic circuits, including Single Flux Quantum (SFQ), Adiabatic Quantum Flux Parametron (AQFP), and other emerging superconducting logic families for qubit control and readout.
  • Develop superconducting digital logic systems that enable multiplexed qubit control and readout;
  • Optimize signal integrity, minimize crosstalk, manage thermal budgets, and improve performance for coherent qubit control.
  • Participate in co-design efforts with qubit designers and superconducting digital circuit engineers.
  • Utilize advanced IC design tools, numerical circuit simulation techniques, and 3D electromagnetic modeling.
  • Address integration challenges related to multilayer cell design, full-chip clock synchronization, flux trapping, and signal integrity.
  • Collaborate with fabrication, design, and measurement teams to validate integrated quantum processors;
  • Work with fabrication engineers to establish IC design standards compatible with superconducting qubits and cryogenic control electronics.
  • Support the development of fully integrated modular chip stacks combining superconducting qubits and cryogenic control electronics.
  • Publish research findings in scientific journals and present results at leading conferences.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, a related engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with superconducting logic families such as RSFQ, ERSFQ, RQL, HFQ, or AQFP.
  • Experience completing tape-out of a superconducting integrated circuit (IC) chip
  • At least one published research paper or conference presentation in a relevant scientific field.

Preferred:

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Seven years of research or industry experience designing and simulating superconducting digital logic circuits.
  • Three years of experience leading an R&D team through superconducting IC tape-out and demonstration;
  • Experience with complete digital design flows, including RTL design, synthesis, verification, timing closure, place-and-route, and post-fabrication validation.
  • Experience performing low-temperature measurements of superconducting digital logic circuits.
  • Experience working with superconducting qubits.
  • Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) tools and electromagnetic simulation software.

  • Base Salary: $174,000 - $253,000 USD annually.
  • Target Bonus: 15%.
