Sr. Security Engineer, Quantum Computing

Job Description

Job Title: Sr. Security Engineer – AWS Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, CA, USA (onsite 1–2 days/week)

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain threat models and comprehensive security plans for R&D labs.
• Lead security initiatives for Amazon’s quantum research facilities.
• Design, document, and communicate lab security policies and workflows;
• Audit and review scientific software and equipment for compliance and security risks.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to meet Amazon’s security standards.
• Maintain detailed inventories and perform audits on sensitive hardware and software.
• Assess and manage risks in software lifecycles on scientific instrumentation.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in security engineering or a Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Informatics, or a related field.
• Expertise in threat modeling, risk analysis, design reviews, and secure system operations;
• Solid knowledge of adversary techniques and experience with incident response and recovery.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred:

• Interest or experience in quantum technologies.
• Experience in scientific or engineering R&D environments.
• Proven ability to teach and develop training programs for security awareness;
• Knowledge of business continuity planning, crisis communication, and access control systems.
• Experience in secure lab operations, including data center and research facility oversight.

Instructions & Requirements:

• Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or otherwise eligible for a U.S. export license under applicable laws.

• The base pay range is $143,300 – $247,600/year depending on experience and geographic location. Total compensation may include sign-on bonuses, equity, and a full benefits package;
